Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of March 24, 2025.
• Congratulations to Coach DeAnn Dominick and the four 5th graders who represented Herndon at the Parish Fitness Meet. The four students were Keely Thomas, Rylan Reno, Taylor Smith, and Ivan Rodriquez. All four did great, and Taylor Smith won 1st in the long-jump and 3rd in the 600 yards run.
• Mrs. Victoria Lacy, Herndon’s Band Director, is very excited to announce that Ivan Zimmerman and Easton Reynolds will represent Herndon at the Louisiana Bandmasters Association All-Star Band in July. They will travel to ULL to perform with middle school students from 41 schools across Louisiana.
• Congratulations to Coach John Corbell and the following golfers for qualifying for the Parish Championship in April: Jackson Branch, Austin Young, Luke Zich, Harper Gott, Casen Lewis, and Mason Schenck.
• Congratulations to Herndon’s Red River United “Most Improved Students of the Year.” The 5th grade student is Brinkley Phelps, and the 8th grade student is Kennady Rougley.
• The first Track & Field event for Herndon will be Tuesday, March 25, at Lee Hedges. All meets start at 5:30 PM, and all meets will be at Lee Hedges. Tickets must be purchased on Local Level.
• The Lady Hawks Soccer Team will play Southfield at Southfield on Thursday, March 27 at 6 PM.
• The Spring Book Fair will run Monday to Friday, March 24-28.
• Prime Time will be Tuesday, March 25, for those who are registered.
• The PTSA will be hosting Donuts with Grown-Ups for elementary on Thursday, March 27 for those who are registered.
• Spring pictures will be Thursday, March 27. Only students dressed in “Spring Clothing” may participate in this event.
• Congratulations to Lyric Strickland, Olivia Reeves, Christina Mitchell, Cohen Lummus, Liam Hinckley, Scarlett Byles, Aiden Braden, and Caleb Bennett. These 6th grade students made the Caddo Parish Beginner Honor Band and will perform at Centenary College at 6:00 PM on Friday, March 28.
• We want to wish the best to the Highsteppers as they compete at Nationals on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, in Arlington, Texas.
• Speaking of Highsteppers, the “Tryout Permission Form” for the 2025-2026 Highsteppers, and the $20 non-refundable fee are due by Friday, March 28.
• Our Office Fundraiser is in full swing and there’s still time to get involved. • The Defenders of Liberty Air Show will take place on March 29-30 at Barksdale Air Force Base. There will be a STEMZONE for visitors. Gates will open at 9:00 AM on both days.
• Just a reminder that Hawk Treats was moved from March 21 to April 4. The PTSA is in need of volunteers. You can sign up on the link that will be provided in the JWebb message that follows this JCall. The link says 3/21, but once you click on it, the date will be April 4. • We have three weeks until LEAP testing. The dates are April 14-16 and April 22-23. Attendance at school and arriving on time is vital for your student’s academic success.
